Eli Cohen

Eli Cohen is a producer and artist whose work at Halcyon blends their creative and administrative background. In addition to their four years producing with Hal and Kevin prior to Halcyon’s formation, they are also a writer, director, and dramaturg, bringing key artistic insight to a company built around new work development.

Their Broadway credits include Here Lies Love, the immersive musical that combined David Byrne’s music and the political history of Imelda Marcos with Alex Timbers’ unconventional staging, removing the traditional theatre proscenium and putting the audience at the center of the story, as well as Life of Pi and Plaza Suite. They have also worked on the developmental productions of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Becoming Nancy, and Scotland, PA.

Eli is a Fellow Member of the Broadway League, working with the Government Relations Committee to help support and protect theatre in New York and across the country, and was previously part of the League’s Rising Star Fellowship.

Cohen brings a decade of experience in new work development and marketing. Their own creative projects include The Chosen One, developed through a thesis on queer representation in commercial musical theater; –G–T: a Christmas Carol, an immersive exploration of queer joy and trauma in a pop idiom; and Cicada 3301, which they are developing as a director. Their ongoing work as an artist gives their producing instincts a different vantagepoint: they are attentive to how stories are built, how they connect to audiences, and how identity and representation operate inside commercial forms.

At Halcyon, their role as Associate Producer brings their insight to the day-to-day machinations of how projects are developed, positioned, and managed. Eli leads with their hybrid background: using development not only to ensure the work is ready, but focusing on how a story is framed, who it is for, and how clearly its central premise can be communicated to its audience before they ever step into a theatre.
