The beginning

It started with
a phone call.

Then another. Then a weekly ritual. Kevin Connor and Cathy Dantchik had been talking every week for years — working through projects, sharing what they were learning, figuring out what they believed about producing. One question kept coming back: why this story, why now? If a project can’t answer that honestly, it isn’t worth producing. When those conversations started to overlap with the work happening in Hal Luftig’s office, something clicked. It stopped being about their separate work and started being about something they might build together.

Hal Luftig spent three decades learning from the people who shaped modern Broadway — Gerald Schoenfeld, Hal Prince, Manny Azenberg, Margo Lion. Kevin Connor spent years learning from Hal. That chain matters. It means the standards, the instincts, and the ethics of producing are not invented from scratch — they are inherited and refined.

Reade Street Productions — Cathy Dantchik, Kelly Robinson, Ruth Pomerance — had been building their own track record in the same ecosystem. The values were already aligned long before anyone wrote them down. The merger was not a transaction. It was a recognition.

Halcyon Theatricals launched in 2025 as a single company, combining the credits, the relationships, and the standards of both offices. The name was chosen deliberately. In Greek mythology, the halcyon is the bird that brings calm to the sea — it nests on the water during the quietest days of winter. Broadway is not always a calm place. That is exactly why the name fits.

How we work

Principles we’ve held since the beginning
01

Transparency with collaborators

Regular updates, honest reporting, and terms everyone can actually understand.

02

Genuine creative investment

We choose projects because we believe in them, then we back that belief with resources and attention.

03

The long view

We’re building relationships and a reputation — not optimizing for any single production.

People

The team.

Seven people with complementary experience across producing, artistic and business leadership, creative development, rights acquisition, and multi-platform storytelling.
